Canada Day Potluck Ideas

Share:

Canada Day is always a fun celebration, and chances are, you’re going to be invited to at least one party this year. You don’t want to be that person that arrives empty-handed, so being prepared is key. Hazelview Properties has a few delicious recipes that you can make for a potluck this year!

Great Canadian Poutine

For Canada Day, you can’t go wrong with Poutine. It’s classic, traditional and everyone loves it! For this recipe, you’re going to start by placing the cut potatoes in a bowl, covering them with water or beer. Let it sit in the fridge for a few hours. While you wait, make the gravy. In a saucepan, heat the butter, then add flour, shallots and garlic and let it cook for a few minutes. Next you’re going to add beef stock, ketchup, stout beer, balsamic vinegar, worcestershire, and a pinch of salt and pepper and bring it to a boil. Once the gravy is thick, lower the heat to the lowest setting and let it sit while you make the fries. Once the potatoes are fried and golden, place them into bowls and sprinkle with salt. Add cheese curds to each bowl and cover the fries with the hot gravy. Now you’re ready to celebrate!

Grilled Prosciutto-Wrapped Asparagus

This Prosciutto-Wrapped Asparagus recipe is the easiest appetizer anyone could make even though it might look super fancy. It only requires two ingredients and takes only 15 minutes to make. You’re going to need 1 pound of asparagus, 6 ounces of sliced prosciutto and 1 tbsp of olive oil. Wrap each prosciutto slice around the asparagus at an angle, until you cover the whole thing. Heat the olive oil in a pan and cook the asparagus for 2-3 minutes or until it’s tender. And there you have it - the perfect appetizer!

Nacho Cups

If you want to make a memorable appetizer, try these Nacho Cups. Start by mixing 1 can of refried beans and 1 package of taco seasoning in a bowl. Now you’re going to start layering everything in the cups in this order: beans, sour cream, guacamole, salsa or pico de gallo, cheese, tomatoes, green onions and olives. Use 2 tbsp of each food item per layer. Once that’s done, garnish each cup with a tortilla chip and store in the fridge until it’s ready to serve. The best part is that there’s no mess or double dipping!

Canada Day Firecracker Pasta Salad

Stand out and impress everyone with this Firecracker Pasta Salad. To achieve the red and white colours, seperate ½ a box of pre-cooked bowtie pasta into a ziploc bag and add 20 drops of red food colouring. Shake it around until the colour is well distributed. Now mix all the pasta together and add the rest of the ingredients which include: onion, beans, tomatoes, mozzarella, chorizo/pepperoni, sriracha sauce and italian salad dressing. Mix everything lightly, but don’t overdo it as the dye can run all over. You can refrigerate it until you’re ready for the party and garnish it with parmesan cheese. Yum!

Red And White Fruit Kabobs

For a quick and easy dessert, give these Red and White Fruit Kabobs a try. Let’s start with the best part: the dip. To make it cheesecake flavoured, mix greek yogurt, cream cheese, vanilla and sugar and set aside. For the skewers, you’ll need 14 oz angel food cake cut into 1-inch cubes and 72-84 strawberries and 24-28 skewers. Wash the strawberries and start adding everything to the skewers, alternating between the cake pieces and the strawberries. Finally, place them on a plate and store in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
