Unique BBQ Eats to Try This Spring and Summer

Share:

It’s the best time of the year: BBQ season! Hazelview Properties has a few unique recipes for you to try at home this spring and summer.

1. Honey & Beer glazed BBQ chicken

There’s something special about bbq chicken -- it tastes amazing! This delicious Honey and Beer Glazed Chicken recipe might just be one of your new favourites. It’s perfect for a busy weeknight or a weekend with friends. If you want the chicken to taste incredible, the best thing to do is to let it marinate overnight. If you don’t have that much time, a few hours will do just fine. Start by cutting 1 ½ lbs of chicken breast into cubes and set aside. To make the marinade, you’ll need to mix ¾ cup beer, ⅓ cup honey, ¼ cup soy sauce, 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tsp dijon mustard, 3 cloves of minced garlic and some red pepper flakes. Mix everything all together in a sealed container and let it sit, refrigerated, overnight. When it’s ready, toss it on the bbq and garnish it with cilantro.

2. Grilled Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are a nice alternative to regular potatoes. A great way to prepare them is to grill them. All you have to do is peel them and slice them into ¼ inch slices and cover them with some olive oil and salt. Place them onto the grill and cook for up to 6 minutes per side. Make the dressing by combining ¼ cup of cilantro, 1 tsp of lemon zest, 2 tbsp lemon juice, ¼ cup of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Once the potatoes are ready, mix them into the dressing and serve!

3. Smoked Tofu Burnt Ends

If you’ve been searching for a vegetarian/vegan friendly BBQ recipe, you have to try Smoked Tofu Burnt Ends. They are full of flavour and a good meat substitute. You’re going to need 1 12-16 oz block of tofu, 1 tbsp of mustard, 3 tbsp of BBQ dry rub and ¼ cup BBQ sauce. Start by cutting the tofu into cubes and cover the pieces with the mustard. Next, cover the tofu completely with the dry rub and place the cubes onto the grill and smoke for 1.5 hours at 250 degrees. Flip them ever so often and once they are nice and golden, remove them and cover in BBQ sauce. Place the tofu cubes back on the grill and cook for another 15 minutes. Once they’re ready, just serve and enjoy!

4. Steak and Potato Skewers

Take your grilling to the next level with this Steak and Potato Skewer recipe. It’s savoury and delicious and it will leave you wanting more. Marinate the steak overnight for maximum flavour. Striploin steak is the best option since it’s very tender. For the marinade, you’ll need to combine brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt and pepper in a ziploc bag. Add the cubes of steak and shuffle everything around. When you’re ready to cook, start by preheating the grill to 400 degrees. While you wait, add the potatoes to your skewers and cook them in the microwave for 4 minutes until they are somewhat soft. If they’re ready, toss them in a bowl of canola oil, salt and pepper and mix. Once the potatoes are cool enough to handle, make the skewers by alternating between steak cubes and potatoes. Place them on the grill, cover with BBQ sauce and cook for 5 minutes. Enjoy this sweet and smoky dish with your family and friends!

5. Grilled Pizzas

Let’s be honest -- pizza is always a good idea! With this Grilled Pizza recipe, you’re in for a real treat. You only need the following 3 ingredients: 1 batch of dough, olive oil and the pizza toppings of your choice. When you’re ready, set the grill to 450 degrees, roll out the dough and brush some olive oil on it. Place the dough on the grill crates and bake for a few minutes until it turns golden brown and puffy. Remove it from the grill, flip over and add your favourite toppings. Place it back onto the grill and bake for another few minutes. You can make one big pizza or 6-8 mini ones -- which is a great option if you want to try different toppings. The end result is a delicious crispy pizza with a smoky flavour. Yum!
