Why we love living in Halifax

What we love about living in Halifax

Whether you're working remotely, broadening your geographical horizons or simply starting fresh in a new city, we absolutely love living in Halifax and you might too. Here are just a few reasons why living in Halifax is the greatest.

It's gorgeous

You’re surrounded by simply stunning natural landscapes and seascapes here on the East Coast of Canada. No matter where exactly you'll be living in the city, it's always a good idea to take a little or long stroll along Halifax’s boardwalk. It's the perfect way to enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and Halifax Harbour.

It's easy to navigate

Halifax is a relatively small city, so it’s pretty easy to get around on foot, by car, by bike or by bus.

Lower living costs

Halifax is an affordable Canadian city to live in compared to others. This is a big reason why many Canadians moved to the Atlantic Coast during the pandemic when remote work opportunities expanded.

Delicious food and drink

It's easy to enjoy fine fare at Halifax's many restaurants, bars, pubs, food markets and shops. If you enjoy seafood, being right on the Atlantic Ocean has some serious advantages like cheap oysters and lobster! You can shop for fresh seafood at Halifax's outstanding fisherman's market to prepare at home, or enjoy seafood out and about around town at one of the city’s restaurants. Bars and pubs in Halifax are very fun. Visit them to enjoy craft beers, cocktails and fine wines from local Nova Scotia wineries! The Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market is a wonderful place to pick up fresh produce and ready-to-eat foods to enjoy.

Excellent education

Halifax has no shortage of great academic institutions. With 135 schools, the Halifax Regional Centre for Education is the largest school system in Atlantic Canada. Notable post secondary institutions in Halifax include Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s University, NSCAD, Mount Saint Vincent, NSCC Institute of Technology, King’s College, Atlantic School of Theology, Academy of Learning Career College and NSCECE.

It has great natural spaces

Halifax is home to many beautiful parks and hiking trails like Point Pleasant Park. This 75-hectare wooded park has 39 km of trails and (several accessible) paths. Halifax Public Gardens is the place in town to enjoy beautiful floral displays. And in the warmer months, you can take advantage of Halifax's best beaches and surf spots.

We hope to welcome you home to Halifax, Nova Scotia! It’s a fabulous Canadian city to live in that you’re sure to love. Looking for a Halifax apartment rental community to call home? We can help. Find your new Halifax home in one of our affordable rental communities in the area
